The producers were keen to incorporate the look of the set and the logo within the screen graphics. It was important to consider that most of each episode would feature close ups or mid shots of the contestants and meaning the screens would be very prominent in shot. Therefore the screens had to have depth and detail in the contestant backings, but still feel cohesive and impressive in the wide shots.

The theme of the interlocking rings was used in all sections of the show, but colour and tempo changes punctuated the different stages of the format; for example, going from the gameplay to voting sequence. We generated PreViz (pre-visualisations of the set) of how each stage would look, which was fed back to the production and lighting teams. This resulted in a much smoother process in the studio for everyone, and a much more impressive, visually cohesive look overall.

Pre-Visualising the set

Potion Pictures was challenged to progress the screen graphics from the first series. After Series 1 had aired, the producers wanted to go in a different creative direction and make better use of Patrick Doherty’s 360° set and wrap-arounds. It was important to brighten the overall look and reflect Romesh’s more easy going personna and Saturday night family slot.

Romesh Raganathan took over as a more light-hearted host of the classic back-stabbing quiz show
